Staircases come in all shapes and sizes, but we like ours with small carbon footprints. We’re a company with a conscience – from the way we treat our staff, our customers or the environment. We know that it’s the little things which each of us does which can which culminate to make the biggest impacts.

This is why we have selected to use a stair parts supplier with over 30 years of staircase craftsmanship experience who are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified, ensuring the timber we use is selected from environmentally responsible sources. Our preferred, precision mitred oak newels are not only superior to the two piece laminated posts used by our competitors, but they are also more environmentally sustainable and result in a significant reduction of oak wastage.

Our waste wood converted into biofuel to heat our building in the colder months and collected by members of the local community to keep homes warm. Some is reclaimed by local businesses to be transformed into bespoke goods. What’s more, we even endeavor to schedule our installations carefully to reduce the amount of fuel our vans burn and use local suppliers as much as possible to support our local economy and reduce our carbon footprint. Old metal balustrades and components are recycled and our brochure is even printed on recycled paper. Our office team correspond by email instead of consuming paper.

“We reclaim quality timber provided by Abbott-Wade following their installations. Oak is such a strong and beautiful wood that we hate to see it go to waste. It’s been a privilege to work alongside a company which shares our strong commitment to both the environment and the local community.” Northern Strongboards

The reason we care as much as we do about our staff and customers is not to receive accolade; we recycle not to simply tick boxes or receive awards – we do these things because it’s the right thing to do. As a family business, our children may one day inherit the Abbott-Wade name and reputation, but they will definitely inherit the world we live in.
